Brazilwood / Sappan wood is a natural dye yielding medicinal plant. Also known as Eastern Brazilwood, it is cultivated in India as a medicinal and dye crop and harvested every 6-8 years. A stump is left for the tree to sprout back to life and it starts to grow quite enthusiastically within 1-2 weeks. Yields different shades of red with or without mordants.
